Alan Hester Alan Hester is an experienced training and development professional with a track record in the successful design and delivery of training programmes in a range of management disciplines and a variety of settings.

He is Director of Alan Hester Associates Limited, a training and development consultancy delivering to managers and staff in training and education (specifically work based learning), the community and voluntary sector, local authorities and in the private sector. Past roles include managing youth and adult training programmes as Head of Training at Heart of England Training and Enterprise Council, and Operations Director of a training and regeneration company.

Since becoming self-employed in May 2002, Alan has designed and delivered training programmes for a number of clients including Learning & Skills Councils, local authorities, Work Based Learning providers, the Community Legal Service and a number of private training organisations.

Alan delivers training on a wide range of management and business disciplines including: Conflict Management, Time and Stress Management, Project Management, Monitoring & Evaluation, Communications, Negotiating Skills, Managing Teams, Business Planning, Managing Information, Train the Trainer, Skills for Managers, ILM Certificate in Team Leading, ILM Introductory Diploma in Management.

His work also includes:
  • Coaching managers towards achievement of competence-based qualifications
  • Advising organisations on business planning and effective working practice
  • decision-making and problem-solving in management teams
  • Training managers and staff in dealing with difficult people.
He is committed to supporting new and existing managers to be more effective, add value to their organisations and develop their own skills, attitude and confidence.

In addition to his training and development activities for employed managers, supervisors and team members, Alan also delivers a range of other services related to development and improvement of individuals and organisations. These include:
  • Training for long-term unemployed adults in positive thinking, motivation, self-esteem and confidence building
  • Training new entrants into specific occupational sectors (i.e. residential care, tourism and hospitality)
  • External evaluation of projects
  • Research and facilitation for performance improvement (FE Colleges, Work Based Learning providers)
