I am looking forward to the next training day” After graduating from Exeter University, Valerie spent two years in the Personnel Department of Esso Petroleum, gaining experience in recruitment and selection, interviewing and industrial relations. She then moved to ITT Components Ltd as their first female Sales Engineer and during three years with that company was involved in selling, marketing and sales development and training, both in the UK and in ITT’s European subsidiaries. She then spent some time as a freelance interviewer for BBC Radio before joining the sales team of Professional and Executive Recruitment. Within two years she was appointed Training Manager and for the following three years was responsible for the training of all levels of PER’s 600 staff. Valerie now runs her own training consultancy, Brandvik Associates, covering general management, communication, assertion, staff development and interpersonal skills, interviewing, telephone effectiveness, selling, influencing and negotiation skills, and quality and customer care for a wide range of clients throughout the country.
